Thanksgiving recipes….
That time of year is upon us again, as we start to look forward to the festivities, it’s time to think of appropriate thanksgiving recipes, to help the proceeding go off with a bang. Our recipes below aim to give you some great ideas of what to cook as well as increasing your levels of good housekeeping.
1.Perfect roast turkey

1.PERFECT ROAST TURKEY
Ingredients
15 pound turkey, with neck and giblets removed
2 small chopped onions
400 g kosher salt
3 chopped carrots
75 g melted butter
10 g thyme
200 ml dry white wine
Directions
For this thanksgiving recipe, firstly rub both the inside and outside of the turkey with the salt. Then pop the turkey into a pan and cover it with water and place in the fridge over night.
Remove the turkey from the salt water and then give it a quick wash, place it in a roasting tray.
Baste the turkey with roughly half of the melted butter. Use 1.5 carrots, 1 onion, 5 g thyme to stuff the turkey and distribute the other onion, carrots and thyme around the outside of the turkey and pour the wine over it.
Place the turkey in a preheated oven at a temperature of 180 degrees C (360 degrees F) and cook for roughly 210 minutes.
After 140 minutes, turn the turkey upside down and baste the breast with the butter and place it back in the oven.
2.PUMPKIN PIE
Serves (8)
Ingredients
1.5 kg pumpkin
20 ml vegetable oil
One 9 inch unbaked pie crust
4 eggs, lightly beaten
250 ml warm honey
pinch of ginger
pinch of cinnamon
5 g salt
250 ml warm honey
150 ml milk
150 ml heavy whipping cream
Directions
Pre heat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C)
Cut the pumpkin in half, removing the seed while doing so.
Slightly oil the cut half of the pumpkin and place face down on a lightly oiled baking tray
Place the pumpkin halves in the pre-heated oven until the flesh is soft when poking with a fork.
When it has been left to cool for a few minutes, scrape all the inside of the pumpkin out, and then mash it.
In a bowl mix the mashed pumpkin with the salt and spices, then mix in the beaten eggs, honey, milk and cream.
When you’ve done this and made sure it is thoroughly mixed, pour the pumpkin mix into the pie crust.
Turn the oven up to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C) and bake for roughly 60 minutes.
Leave to cool and serve
3.GLAZED HAM
Ingredients
1 bone-in shank ham
125 ml honey
125 g brown sugar
50 ml liquid smoke flavoring
35 ml Worcestershire sauce
1000 ml water
Directions
For this thanksgiving recipe, firstly, pop the ham into a roasting tray, pour in the water and cover and allow to cook on a heat of 140 degrees C (280 degrees F) for roughly 8 hours.
Drain away the juices of the ham and keep to one side (it will be needed later. T this point you need to remove the bone from the ham. When you have done this place it back into the roasting tray.
The juices which you have at hand, needs to be mixed with the other ingredients, so that now. Cover the ham with juices and pop it back in the oven for roughly 45 minutes.
4. CRANBERRY SAUCE
Ingredients
350 g cranberries
250 ml orange juice
200 g white sugar
Directions
For this thanksgiving recipe, firstly, grab yourself a saucepan, and into pour the orange juice and pop it on a medium heat hob.
To this add the sugar and cook until it dissolves. Pop the cranberries into the pan and cook for roughly 10 minutes or until they start to pop/burst.
Take the sauce off the hob and pour into a bowl and leave to cool, as this will thicken up the sauce.
5.PECAN PIE
Ingredients
Uncooked pie shell (9 inch)
125 g chopped pecans
2 eggs
150 g light brown sugar
8 g flour
55 g white sugar
125 g butter (melted)
20 ml milk
5 ml vanilla extract
Directions
For this thanksgiving recipe, firstly, crack the eggs into a bowl and whisk until they become fluffy. Into the eggs now pour in the melted butter and mix in the brown and white sugar, along with the flour and give it a good stir.
Finally add to this the pecans, vanilla and milk and give it another good stir. Pour the ingredients into the pie shell.
Place the pie into preheated oven of 200 degrees C (390 degrees F) for roughly 40 minutes. Leave to cool. Serve.
6. MINCEMEAT PIE
Ingredients
700 g lean ground beef
2 (9 inch) uncooked pie crusts
20 g cornstarch
1 ltr water
1 diced onion
50 ml water
Salt and pepper to taste
Gravy granules
Directions
For this thanksgiving recipe, firstly, pop the beef in water and bring to the boil until it is fully cooked. Then drain the water away.
Place the beef in another pan and add some more water, to this add the onions and the gravy mix and cook until the onions become translucent.
At this point add the salt and pepper into the mix.
In the meantime, in a small bowl add the 50 ml water to the cornstarch and give it a quick mix and then place it into the pan with the meat in, in order to thicken it.
Finally the mincemeat has to put into the pie crusts. This is then placed in a preheated oven and cooked on a heat of 190 degrees C (380 degrees F) for approx. 35 minutes.
7.GRILLED CORN ON THE COB
Ingredients
6 corn cobs
60 g butter
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
For this Thanksgiving recipe, firstly, rub each of the corn cobs with 10 g of butter and wrap them in tin foil. Place them underneath a preheated grill for roughly 35 minutes. Leave to cool for a couple of minutes. Serve.
