Halloween

OPH Good Housekeeping & Homemaking

Halloween is celebrated by Western culture on the 31st October every year. It is said that the idea of this festivsl originated in Ireland as a Celtic Pagan festival.

Later its idea, and concept was taken by Christian missionaries and given a more of a Christian feel.

When the festival started in Ireland it was done so to celebrate the end of the summer and the start of the harvest season. They would say that on that day only, the spirits of dead would visit the mortal world once again. Bonfires were lit to frighten off any evil spirits, and so the legend was borne.

In modern times it seems that it has now become an excuse to celebrate and to have a good old knees up. Fancy dress parties are held all over the Western world every year. If you have been invited to one of these parties why not check out one of the many online fancy dress sites for some excellent costume ideas?

So on the big day, if you notice things going missing or if things go bump in the night, don’t worry it’s just the spirits of old friends or relatives paying you a visit.
