Halloween Party Games

OPH Good Housekeeping & Homemaking

Below are some Halloween party games witch can be played at any Halloween party…..

The games listed include:

  • 1.Bobbing for apples
  • 2.Pin the wart on the witch
  • 3.Ghost tales
  • 4.Playing piñata
  • 5.Pass Pandora’s Box

    BOBBING FOR APPLES

These Halloween party games have been around for hundreds of years, and are really popular at any party.

    For this you need:

  • Large container
  • Water
  • Apples with the stems removed
  • Towels to dry off those taking part
  • Some nice prizes for the winners
  • Stop watch to time the contestants
  • All you need to do is fill the large bucket or container with the water, and put the apples in the water as desired.

A good idea is to set a time limit for the contestants and see how many apples they can remove from the container using only their mouths. Make sure contestants keep their hand behind their back, to stop any cheating from the taking place.

The winner of the contest is the person who retrieves the most apples within the time limit. They can be awarded with a prize of your choice.

NB Make sure the apples aren’t too large, as the contestants will find them almost impossible to fit in their mouths.

PIN THE WART ON THE WITCH

This can be as gentle or gory as you wish and remains a firm favourite here at OPH

    What you need:

  • 1 pin with a red or green pin head – You can get these from most reputable stationary shops.
  • Pencil and A3 sheet of plain paper.
  • Blind fold (a scarf should do the trick).
  • A nice prize for the winner.
  • First things first, on the sheet of paper draw a witches head, hairy chin, hat and all.

Each contestant is blind folded and the aim of the game is to pin the wart as close to the end of the witches nose as possible, perhaps draw a small cross as a target. The nearest contestant to the cross wins.

    GHOST TALES

A great thing to do at a Halloween is to tell ghost stories, everybody has got a least one funny or scary story to tell, perhaps the person with the best spookiest tale can be given a prize.

    BASH THE PINATA

This is one of my favourite Halloween games and is fantastic for kids or even adults at Halloween is to play piñata. Pinatas can be bought from most party supply shops, click here for more details. The piñata is suspended from a tree or a ceiling hook by using a rope.

Firstly, it is filled with goodies and then it’s suspended. Each contestant is then blind folded, with the aim of the game to whack the suspension with a bat or large stick in attempt to break it in half and release its delights.

Each person taking part has between 5 and 10 attempts of hitting the piñata, before the next contestant has ago. Oh, I almost forgot, before each contestant attempts to hit the piñata they must be spun around to make them slightly dizzy, and obviously increase the difficulty level.

If you are going to do this indoors make sure there is enough room as things could be broken, and make sure that nobody is likely to obstruct the “batter” as they may get hurt.

    PASS PANDORA’S BOX

This is a fun Halloween game and based on the “pass the parcel” game of old. What you need to do is a get number of boxes (10 or more) and make sure each box is a different size and they all fit into each other and each has tight fitting lid. The smallest box is the one which will contain the prize.

The aim of the game is the same as “pass the parcel”. The box is passed around a circle in time to some spooky music, when the music stops the contestant holding the box at the time opens it, this box should contain a smaller box, which is passed on the same as before, this pattern is continued until the prize has been found.

To make this game more realistic why not decorate the boxes in a spooky Halloween like design?
