Ever wondered how different colours can affect our mood or senses? Below are tips on colour schemes, we have listed a number of colours with an explaination of how each can affect our personas.

The aim of these tips is to help aid you in your good housekeeping role.

White

This colour symbolizes innocence and purity as well as optimism. White reflects light so when you have room painted white the light bulbs you need to sufficiently light the room don’t have to be as powerful.

The drawbacks of using white paint, is that it shows up dirt more easily, and can be quickly stained by cigarette smoke.

Yellow

This vibrant colour can light up any room. It is said it’s a colour which can promote optimism, however yellow can evoke anger and perhaps should be used sparingly when decorating your home.

Blue

This a very peaceful colour, scientists go as far as saying that it can even cause the brain to release self-calming chemicals, so may be an idea to use it in the bedroom.

If you are wishing to decorate a study area, an idea could be to paint it this colour as it promotes productivity, thus you’ll get more work done and less easily distracted.

When using blue to decorate a room care has to be taken as blue can become a cold colour and can even make you depressed if you spend too much time in that room.

Green

This is an earthy colour and is symbolic of nature. At this moment in time green is the most popular colour to decorate a room in. Green is a calming and relaxing colour so can be used in any room in the house. Its popularity is in its versatility.

Darker greens can symbolize masculinity, wealth and power.

Red

This is probably the most emotive colour. It’s warm and vibrant and is said to be the colour of love.

The problem with decorating a room with red is that it’s not really a relaxing colour and can even promote aggression.

Purple

Purple really is a regal colour, used by royalty and Roman Emperors, if used right can make a great impact on a room. Purple gives out vibes of sophistication and class. However this can be its downfall. The reason for its popularity amongst the gentry was because it’s rare; this rareness can make it appear a bit tacky and perhaps slightly artificial.

Brown

This is another earthy colour and if used right can be very effective. Brown is said to increase appetite so can be used as an affective colour in your kitchen or dining room.

However the problem with brown is that it can be related to sadness.
