Christmas Shopping Tips

OPH Good Housekeeping

Follow our easy to use Christmas shopping guide for a stress free Christmas:

PLAN

October/November is the ideal time. Any earlier and you may miss out on special offers, seasonal wrappings and delivery service. Many foodstores permit you to book home delivery slots 3 weeks in advance, the first week in December.Mark the date for your particular store on the calendar to maximise your choice of delivery time.

MAKE FREEZER SPACE

It's a perfect time to cut down on the weekly shopping and use up what has perhaps been stored in the freezer for months. Spend the money you save on non perishable goods that can be stored in a cupboard or box anywhere in the house. Beware of extra large turkeys. Don't be a victim of a false economy. Will it fit into your freezer, will it fit into your oven and more importantly, will you end up throwing most of it away?

FESTIVE OFFERS

Many stores have special offers on Christmas Fayre in the run up to Christmas. don't be tempted to over shop by purchasing foodstuff that nine times out of ten remains in the fridge or cupboard exceeding its sell by date, ultimately destined for the bin. Beware of goods that are traditionally associated with christmas but expire a week or so before the 25th. Mince pies have a short shelf life and are therefore a perfect example of this.
