Barbecue Cleaning

Barbecue cleaning and maintenance is an important part of outdoor cooking, because the next time the sun shining and the smell of summer is in the air, we want to get the most out of it, as we all know a clean barbecue is a happy one.

In addition to this, for some strange reason, barbecued food tastes a whole lot better when it is cooked on a clean grill? Therefore if you want to get the most out of your barbecue cooking please read on.

How do I clean my barbecue set?
When cleaning your barbecue set a few good housekeeping practices should be applied. Firstly, ensure that it has cooled down considerably as you don’t want to be paying a visit to A &E. When it has cooled use warm soapy water to clean away the grease which has built up, but make sure you do so by using a non-abrasive material as a more abrasive one will scratch the surface and leave it more vulnerable to the elements and the barbecue’s nemesis, rust!!

How do I clean the grill of the barbecue?
When that time has come again to use the barbecue you may find that rust has formed on the grill. To go about removing it, from experience the best thing to use is wire wool, which can be found in most reputable D.I.Y. stores such as B & Q and Wickes (opens a new browser window).

When you have done this give the grill a wipe down with a damp cloth to get rid of any rust residue, and there you go it should be sparkling and ready for use.

Use a steamer
If you use your barbecue on several occasions throughout the year why not invest in a steam cleaner? This will speed up the time taken to clean your barbecue after use and can be very affective indeed; therefore if you are sick of scrubbing to remove rock like meat from the barbecue basin, an investment in one will be extremely beneficial.

If you are interested in buying a steam cleaner this page may give you a clearer idea, which one will best suit your needs Click here to compare steam cleaners (opens a new browser window).

Should I keep my barbecue covered when not in use?
The answer here is a categorical yes. In order to give your barbecue (especially static ones) some protection from the elements it’s a good idea to cover it with a plastic sheet. It won’t work miracles but every little helps and it’ll ensure your BBQ will last for a few summers longer.

Another great barbecue cleaning idea is during the winter months remove the grill and store it in a dry place away from the damp and the elements; this will decrease the risk of rusting – remember good housekeeping is the order of the day every time.

Should I buy BBQ cleaning fluid?
Again, the answer to this question is a big, yes. In order to aid you in your efforts to clean your barbeque, I can vouch that buying some is a great help not only does the formula remove baked on food but also protects against killer bugs such as Salmonella and E-Coli. My personal favourite is Jeyes Barbecue Cleaner (opens a new browser window).
