Adult Ear Infections – Home Remedies, Causes & Symptoms

Adult ear infections can be a cause of concern or annoyance for many people. Our advice on the causes, symptoms and remedies for this condition will hopefully put your mind a ease and put you on the fast road to recovery.

What are the Causes of Ear Infections?
Adult ear infections are caused by bacteria and viruses and generally occur prior to a cold, sinus or throat illnesses; which in turn attack the tubes that connect the middle ear to the throat. This may result in these tubes becoming blocked, therefore preventing fluid from draining from the middle ear. It is this lack of drainage, which leads to the ear becoming infected, as the fluid is a superb breeding ground for bacteria and viruses.

What are the Symptoms of Adult Ear Infections?
The most common symptoms of inner ear infections are general pain or discomfort and a somewhat annoying itch. Other side effects may include sickness (usually in children), dizziness, hearing difficulties, fluid draining from the middle ear and a fever.

Home Remedies for Adult Ear Infections?
A good home remedy for an adult ear infection and to remove water from the Eustachian tubes is to place a few drops of garlic juice into the ear and then blow dry, the affected ear (ensure that the dryer isn’t too close to your head otherwise you may burn yourself).

The second home remedy you can use is olive oil. Here put a few drops onto a warm tablespoon and place the liquid in both ears. On the other hand if you don’t fancy using olive oil to cure your ear infection then lobelia extract will do the job just as well. If this fails then try washing you ears with colloidal silver, this solution works a treat because it is a natural antibiotic.

Other home remedies for adult ear infections include taking vitamin C supplements as this helps boost the immune system as a whole.
